Our ancestors crossed the vast ocean to arrive in Hawai'i long ago. They encountered many hardships. They persevered & overcame harsh conditions to begin a new life in the islands.

Their resilience & cooperation helped them build a thriving lāhui, despite the many challenges they faced. The 'Ōlelo no'eau, "He'a'ai'i I kū makani mai au; ‘a‘ohe makani nāna e kula'i" describes one who is resilient in the face of adversity - I am a wind-withstanding 'a'ali'i; no wind can topple me over.

Like the 'a'ali'i which withstand the winds that beat upon it, our people will continue to stand firm together. Kūpa'a nō kākou! - We are resilient.
